The End of the Rainbow Day Care Center promotes a clean and comfortable educational environment, geared to entice children to learn through play. We take great pride in our "family style" atmosphere.
Licensed by the Department of Welfare, # 303920, since April 15, 1984. License renewed yearly.
Director's experience: Certified by the Child Development Association, Masters degree in Early Childhood.
Worked in childcare since 1977
Assistant Director's experience: Bachelors Degree in Art. Employed since February 1985.
Group Supervisors: Four Group supervisors with Elementary Education Degrees.
Teachers: Eleven teachers with at least two years experience in child care services.
Nutritious meals: Home cooked and carefully planned meals are served for breakfast, and lunch. Parents take turns providing snack.

Child to teacher ratio:
School age children, older, ratio is 1 teacher to 15 children.
School age children, younger, ratio is 1 teacher to 12 children.
Pre-school children, ratio is 1 teacher to 10 children.
Toddler children, older, ratio is 1 teacher to 6 children.
Toddler children, younger, ratio is 1 teacher to 5 children.
Infant children, younger, ratio is 1 teacher to 4 children.

The most important consideration in assessing a child's development is sequence. The essential question is not chronological age, but whether the child is moving forward step by step in each area of development.

Information from our different observation tools (daily notes, Rainbow News, biweekly observations, anecdotal notes) help the teachers document the childrens' learning process. Each area of development has different skills listed so that the teachers know what the child has accomplished and what they need to work on in the future.

A developmental checklist is done biannually for each child in the program. This checklist provides the teachers with a tool to document each child's learning progress.

The End of the Rainbow Day Care Center uses the High Scope Curriculum to develop our weekly lesson plans. The Early Learning Standards are used to guide the development of our learning programs. Each child's individual development and learning is constructed on a continuum that builds on prior experience and knowledge. Each child's unique learning style, ability and experiences join together to support progress along the continuum.

Play is the vehicle through which children build knowledge. Our children have the opportunity to develop new skills by using active exploration of hands-on materials. They have a safe and comfortable environment where they can practice these newly acquired skills and build on them to learn new information. Our teachers support children's individualized learning opportunities by providing meaningful experiences that engage their interests, abilities, and culture. Effective classroom learning is a balance of self discovery and supportive and nurturing teachers' construction of challenging, yet attainable skills.
