Children’s Hospital is a national leader in genetic care and research. Our place at the forefront of discovery allows us to quickly bring research results to patient care. We diagnose, counsel, and treat patients with a wide range of genetic disorders, birth defects, and developmental concerns.

Learning that you or your child may have a genetic disorder can be difficult. Our genetic counselors are here to help. They will discuss your family history with you, and can inform you about risks of a genetic condition using lab tests. If a condition is diagnosed, they help you understand the disorder and provide resources.

We offer prenatal genetic counseling through the Vanderbilt Center for Women's Health and our board-certified genetic counselors.

Emergent inpatient consultations are provided 24 hours a day.

Our general genetics clinic serves children and adults. We provide testing, counseling, management options and resources for a wide range of conditions and genetic syndromes. Our expertise includes adult-onset disorders such as Huntington disease, hypertension and pulmonary fibrosis.

Our counseling team offers risk assessment based on family or personal history as well as education and resources. With our help, you can make the right decisions for your family's genetic health and psychosocial needs.

Our team works with others across Vanderbilt Health to connect you to the expertise you and your family need. This includes prenatal counseling through Vanderbilt Women's Health. Cancer-related testing and counseling is offered through the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
