Located 40 miles 64 km north of Miami, it is a principal city in the Miami metropolitan area in South Florida, which was home to 6.14 million people in 2020. As of the 2020 census, the population was 86,859, making it the tenth-largest city in Broward County and the 13th-largest city in the Miami metropolitan area.
